If this bird looks tropical to you, then it should come to no surprise, that the brilliantly colored Western Tanager migrates each year from as far away as Costa Rica to the northern Rockies. This species ranges farther north than any other tanager, breeding northward to a latitude of 60 degrees—into Canada’s Northwest Territories.
